Survivor‑Strong, Peaceful, and Purposeful

Years ago, during prayer, I found a deep peace and the strength to forgive my abuser. That healing came from my Heavenly Father, and it changed the direction of my life.

I never saw myself as a skilled writer, yet somewhere along the way I uncovered a genuine passion for it. Now, when I put my experiences into words, something inside me lights up. It fills me with a quiet joy that’s hard to explain, but impossible to ignore.

I began sharing my story years ago, but the memories were too painful, so I stopped. Today, with the peace I’ve gained and the healing that has unfolded over many years, I finally feel ready to speak again.

Writing about my journey isn’t easy. There are so many details, and I often wonder where to begin or what to leave out. I even question whether my story needs to be told in order. But as the author of my own life, I’ve taken a deep breath and embraced the joy of writing once more.

Stepping out of abuse has given me peace and a new sense of purpose. Sharing my story not only gives voice to my past, but it also strengthens others who see themselves in my journey.

I remember the day I asked my husband, “Will you repair your relationship with our children?” His answer was a simple, devastating “No.” My heart shattered, but in that moment I knew what I needed to do.

With trembling hands, I wrote a note explaining my departure. I left a copy on his desk and sent a photo of it to one of his siblings. Then, with a heavy heart, I packed my car, backed out of the garage, and drove away. As I left, I promised myself it would be the last goodbye.

I learned that I could face life’s challenges without an abusive husband. But the thought of losing my connection with my children and grandchildren was something I could never accept.

For many survivors, writing becomes a powerful part of healing. Someone once told me that writing can be therapeutic — and I’ve found that to be true. I encourage you to share your story too, no matter your age or how long it takes. Your voice may be the light someone else needs to find their way out of abuse and into peace.

I am proud to say I kept my promise and never returned to my abuser. Staying away is not easy — many of us try far too many times for far too long. Living in abuse feels like a chaotic roller coaster, but escaping it is possible. It’s frightening, yes — like running through a haunted house — but freedom is waiting on the other side.

Travelling became another source of healing for me. I have many wonderful stories to share, and one day I may write them too. But for now, I feel called to focus on the effects of abuse and how to break free from it. I’ll be including helpful information on these topics.

It’s taken me many years to find real strength and peace within myself. But with every battle I faced and overcame, I grew a little stronger each time.

And now, every morning, I wake up with a fresh start — a new beginning.
